About Mixtery

Mixtery is my very first experimental chill beats album. It is a release where literally all the songs can tell a different story. About the production, about how I composed them, and so on.

Before I dive into these stories let me share with you a bit about 2007. Back then I was like 20 and I was studying economics at the university. I just started The 21st Cherry Boys experimental punk rock duo with Jigsaw. Later Dark Cherry followed the list of bands with Jigsaw and Kyoki. It was the rock band where we performed live until the end of 2010/2011. Literally days and nights were all around making music and mixing crappy home-recorded demos, creating videos, etc.

I also acquired a new stage keyboard, a Korg Triton LE61. I imagined to conquer the world with it. Well, no. From my point of view, Korg is extremely difficult to program so unless you spend months or rather years, you will use it as an electric keyboard, rather than a synth.

Mixtery and solo

Well, this was the time, when I decided to kick off my solo next to these projects. I listened to a lot of visual kei and jrock back then, where it was quite trendy to have a couple of solo projects next to the big ones. But I was also quite sure that I did not want to create further competition with the bigger projects in the rock genre. Especially as we lived in the little town of Szeged. So I needed to come up with a new genre.

Genre: Mixtery

Definitely, as I could not play the guitar, therefore many possibilities fell out (protopunk, indie rock, etc) immediately. But I started listening to DJ Krush at that time and kind of liked the music. So let it be chill. I am no DJ either of course, but I can play the piano and compose some basic chill beats.

Name. Well, my nickname was pszabi in T21CB, coming from my real name. Whereas later used ‘Oshare Booty’ in Dark Cherry. This nickname came from my love of Baroque and kannivalism (referring to the genre oshare kei). And booty refers to a badly Engrish pronounced beauty. Long story short I used pszabi during CherryWorld-OshareChaos EP and Mixtery chill album and used Oshare Booty way long until 2017. That was the year when I actively restarted working on music and rebranded the whole project to Latte Chill.

So, let’s get to the songs!

Story of Mixtery songs

As mentioned before from the several visual kei bands I learned that you may add a couple of filler songs, intros, and outros to boost the numbers of the release. And I did like the idea as experimenting with Korg might mean a couple of 1-2 minute long chill beats with basic piano.

As I changed from piano to singer position with my bands, I also wished to use Mixtery to release some experimental vocal songs. Even though later I removed them from the internet and reworked Mixtery as a fully experimental chill beats album. It happened in 2019 when I felt like I needed to complete my rebranding to Latte Chill way back in the beginning.

Also, I closed down my 15+ years old PC at home and saved most of my projects from the past. Checking them was like reliving my childhood as a musician, but it also held a couple of surprises like Intermezzo Unico, a song I added as an extra in 2019 as this song remained unreleased back then.

Instrumental madness

So I released the vocal-less versions of Spookin’Mix, Itsumademo, I Love You (also adding the piano version to this album and releasing the original as part of CherryWorld-OshareChaos), Hear My Heartbeat, Dancing Lambs (which is a cover song of T21CB), Calling, Magician, Piano Scream and Én Sing Laut (kind of a crappy tribute song to Kyo of Dir en Grey). 9 vocal songs in fact.

I also added Harpsigame, one of my first experimential harp/chill beats I composed on FL Studio. Apart from FL Studio, I used my old Casio synth as well as the previously mentioned Korg Triton. As for mixing it was more like putting the lines over each other and adding some reverb. To be honest I was pretty new to everything back then, still I enjoyed the production of this album and still considered as a special one.

Later the album was almost fully reworked on ReMixtery EP.

Mixes with Mixtery songs

A handful of mixes feature Mixtery beats including Year of Tiger – Chill Edition, Top 10 Home Office Chill Beats III., Nature Chill on the First Floor ’21, and Chill Mixtery #1.

Fun fact that the last one grew to be a series of mixes. The name originates from this LP.
