In 2021 I invested in my learning phase and bought the first gadgets to produce music fully without Ableton or other DAWs: Pocket Operators. PO-33 KO and PO-128 Mega Man editions were added to the roaster in June 2021 to bring more lofi (and chiptune) to the Latte Chill project. On top of that, I also started using Koala Sampler as a beat-maker tool on my smartphone.

On the other hand, T21CB restarted activities with 2 new major releases (an EP and an LP after 7 years) along with Dark Cherry.

What happens after composing and releasing so many albums and EPs? An artist needs to think, reposition, and chill down. This is exactly what happened to me in 2020. I had just too much of a run from 2018 – the restart of Latte Chill turned out to be an awesome experience. But I also became tired a bit. I mean 2020 is not the year we want to remember, not at all – I also decided to halt activities for a bit and learn something new.

Turned out to be more things: I learned how to perform/DJ my songs live, and I had some Balcony Lives at home during the lockdown. I started to release fewer videos I created on the go and try to work much more on the upcoming ones – that may be live DJ mixes as well as travel videos – or simply something else.

What else? I learned to sample better forming a completely new sub-genre among Latte Chill releases: lofi beats. Stay Home is the first (and 15th album of Latte Chill!) but not the last one.

So why heritage? During my stop, I worked endlessly on recovering my old pieces such as Scars, Mixtery, No Past But Future, and many other releases. I remixed them and released them, so in 2020, I could proudly say – all my major releases can be found on streaming platforms in decent quality.

Lastly, T21CB had its 15th anniversary with a best-of-release and a special lofi chill remix of of the old beats.

What an era. I mean I consider this time from March 2018 until the same time in 2020, so 2 years – and I had 26 releases. That is more than one each month.

I worked a lot on forming Latte Chill into its current form: I decided to release all the releases possible on streaming platforms with Distrokid’s solution. I decided to test myself and compose thematic albums and EPs. This is how Earth, a nature chill album was born along with 3 EPs (As the Sun Sets, Fire at Night and Clouds), or Soul Silver – a chiptune album using GameBoy Advance samples.

I had the chance to visit Tokyo, Sardinia, and Greece as well during these years – offering me lots of journeys and experiences I can build on.

To be honest, it is very difficult to write about this era. My music can show what happened better than words here.

In 2016 there was a sudden but lucky change: I got a Novation Launchkey 25. Small but major change. By the end of the year, I had a clear view that I wished to restart as a musician, work on music, and release new materials. And so it raised quite a couple of questions: am I still that Oshare Booty (performing on stage with rock music and singing in solo)? Do I want to follow the same path as before?

The answer was no: I stopped it – whatever the reason was (life, genre, etc) but I stopped. I spent days and weeks clearing down in myself all the changes. I needed a genre – which in a way was already there: chill – half my previous releases were more chill than anything else, but I needed to find it myself.

The name – a new one expressing what I do better: Latte Chill came after many ideas, finishing as number one.

Channels to promote. I knew I wanted to make things big – at least bigger than I was on Myspace before, but to do so, I had to start from scratch. Stream platforms have become more and more trendy, but how much will it cost? I aim to make this project a 0 balance one minimum in 5 years so I chose Distrokid. They seem quite OK price-wise compared to other solutions. Furthermore: social media channels – I need to start focusing on YouTube to build a bit of SEO – but then, I will need a website as well. I left it for the future (as I am working on the website right now…). But what about Facebook, Instagram and Twitter? What about China and Russia? So many questions.

And also the DAW (digital audio workstation). In the past years, I worked with Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar Cakewalk, and FL Studio. But I had none anymore so I needed to purchase a DAW to restart activities. My Novation came with Ableton Lite (which was also suggested by a fellow musician), so I spent these years learning to use this DAW to compose the music I wanted.

Kind of a miracle that I was able to release so many things along with solving these questions. I believe the first attempt was Chinese Restaurant to prove to myself that I can put together songs, mix them, etc. The real ice-breaker was Café Yami, when I was able to compose a complete album with singles, covers, some videos, etc. I also released a song each month in 2017 to challenge myself and force my focus toward music production. I believe it worked well – I was more active than any time before releasing 3 EPs and 3 albums during these 15 months.

Break and Going Crazy? In 2010 I felt like I found the way, where I wanted to go, so in 2011, I had the same course: starting the year with a vocal EP (Scars) and finishing it with a full electro beats album. I decided to become more electro/dance due to the strong influence of Hallyu at that time …and got bored of it. I mean music making. So much so that along with finishing University I somehow put most of my projects on hold.

Sadly Dark Cherry was ended as we could not find a proper guitarist to replace Jigsaw. Though T21CB was flying high with its first best-of compilation, 2 EPs, and a brand new album. And one more 4 years later.

2010
Consolidation

Many… many things happened in 2010. After a decade, when I wrote this article – this was the right time to look back and name this year from a musical perspective. Why Consolidation?

I spent less time on Latte Chill projects only releasing an EP in the first quarter of the year and an album in Q3. Still, I opened up 2 lines: No Past But Future aimed to close the previous mixtery times and begin a new – vocal song era, while Memories of the Untold kept the original Latte Chill beats genre with oriental beats as well as electro beat songs.

So in a way, I was able to separate my dreams among the releases, but there were other fields of consolidation: Dark Cherry released 2 demos recorded in a professional studio. We also printed them and sold them officially. Dark Cherry had the most lives – like 12? – this year and topped in terms of local rock band fame. Also – Jigsaw left the band by the end of this year as it was too much for him.

And yet again, The 21st Cherry Boys – after 3 years of break (because of Dark Cherry mainly) – was reborn with a complete 10+ song album – The Magical Ermine Theatre.

2009
Expanding Universe – Born of Oshare Booty

In suddenly 2009 many things changed: got Erasmus support so I spent months in Germany – offering a break from all band activities, but also having much free time. I decided to invest and reimagine my solo activities: so Oshare Booty was born.

But not just born – I opened my Myspace page, worked hard with FL studio, and released 3 albums in 3 months – what an era.

Practically, while Mixtery was more a mix of genres around experimental analog chill, this time the chill beats part became more clear. While I consider this era still an experimental one, it was already vocal-less (as I brought 0 microphones with me) – and the structure of the songs became more similar to the recent Latte Chill beats.

Y chill album was more a learning phase to learn about music composing in FL Studio – chaining, mixing on a basic level (on my own) as well as composing bass lines, beats, chords, and melodies as well (in harmony).

The Empire was less a chill album, it contains several electro beats, and from a tempo perspective, it has dance songs next to the chill beats.

While Dragonic Eve aimed to become a more oriental chill album, therefore I worked with tons of Koto, Shamisen, and similar sounds – it still has some electro/industrial beats remaining from the previous albums – making this album as Mixtery as the previous 3.

The year ended with the first best-of compilation as 3 albums deserved a Year in 2009, don’t you agree? This album also marked the start of something new featuring Piano Scream at the end.

2008-2007

Starting any project is difficult. It may sound big or good to say “Oh yes and I am even a solo artist” but when the mates are not there, you just have to find your voice. It took the Latte Chill project literally 10 years to get there.

Back then all I had was a Korg Triton LE66 and the will to compose music. I was quite good at the glittering part (adding effects, making some mixes, writing vocals/lyrics) but far – very far from composing songs to the end. CherryWorld-OshareChaos was a good example of this era. While the original EP was a mix of analog chill beats composed on Korg keyboards – I also tried to add some vocals, willing to become a one-man show. And it did not turn out well, even though it took me 5+ years to give up. Mixtery is also a mix of impulses I had in those years: DJ Krush, Dir en Grey – visual kei – wanting to perform and get famous.
And so very the results: mixtery~

As a musician, I started working under the name ‘pszabi’ coming from his birthname with JigsawJohnny in 2006 as part of The 21st Cherry Boys (T21CB in short), an experimental rock duo inspired by Japanese rock music bands such as Buck-Tick or Dir en Grey.

In 2007, a bassist also joined and Dark Cherry was born: a more melodic metal/rock band inspired by D’espairsRay, Phantasmagoria, and other visual kei bands.
