Cherryland

About Cherryland

The story of Cherryland started way before in 2020, when I decided to start covering my old band’s songs.

It was not an easy task, we finished stage performances in 2010 and I had to get the approval of every member before starting it. At the end I lowered my expectations from tracks perspective and started with a 4 piece EP: Darkest Cherry.

As the results were satisfying, I decided to move on with this project and aim for an album.

Failure of 2021 and Cherryland timing changes

At first I was aiming to release a song per month, therefore an album of 12 songs. I also took the last Dark Cherry live as a starting point with the following setlist:

  1. Holdkeringő (aka Stray Cats’ Waltz)
  2. Memoire
  3. Magad vetted el
  4. Lie
  5. Chaos of the Moment
  6. Run Away
  7. Még kell
  8. Ich Will (Rammstein cover)
  9. Fly Poison
  10. Headshot
  11. Monster

So let’s get started. Let me tell you the story of some songs below and showing the original ones if it is possible.

2021 songs from Cherryland

Starting with Alice, one of the most liked and performed song Dark Cherry had. We originally released the single in 2009. If I reckon well, it was the first song we performed as a 5 member band with Kai onboard.

Followed by Lie, the lead song of our 2nd studio demo. This song had more than 3 versions, performed in live. One day I hope to have an article on the different versions but until then, allow me to show you the lofi version and the studio as a comparison.

Third song was Stray Cats’ Waltz. This song was also featured on our second studio demo under the title ‘Holdkeringő’. While the first title was the project name of this song, the second is the Hungarian title. This song was performed live in the last year of Dark Cherry on several concerts.

Forth song ‘Still Need’ was still on time. So we speak. A rock song originally composed by Cay. Performed several times, though we never recorded the song sadly.

Finally ESC:, this was the last lofi cover beat I could maintain the original timeline. Then I had a full summer and faced delay on finishing the beats a time. Partially because I bought a PO-33 KO and in general we had more issues with the pandemics then expected.

No cover song at this stage, sorry. I hope I can share some records later with you.

Slowing down with the production

As stated above, we faced a slow down in the project afterwards due to shift of focus at my end. Finally, by the end of 2021 I have found my Dark Cherry mojo and continued the project with the aim for finish it in 2022. The next lofi cover was a disco beat of a song titled ‘DISCO’.

No video link I can share here as DISCO was a song we learnt in the studio but were unable to perform or record it. Sadly. Hopefully one day we will have the chance to properly cover it.

DISCO was followed by Memoire. This song was recorded in our first studio session and was performed several times. An oriental vibe rock song which was just perfect for a trap beat oriental lofi cover.

Memoire was followed by Fly Poison. The story of this song goes way back to 2008. We originally composed this rock song as a 4 piece band and was the first (rough, home-made) demo we shared with people. Being a pretty raw song, it was a challenge to cover it as a Latte Chill lofi beat.

Final round and finishing Cherryland

Finally, I realised that “only” 4 songs are missing from my plate so I kind of vowed to finish it by the end of 2022. I restarted the project with ‘Jekyll and Hyde’. As the title suggests a pretty old vibe, symphonic metal song to come with organ. But… in lofi:

No teasers this time. Sadly, again a song left in the studio. I hope, one day I can show you the original version, either as footage or in any other format.

It was closely followed by ‘Hopeless Romantic’ – another old song from 2009. I mean we recorded it in 2009 during our first studio demo session, but if I recall it right, this song is way older and we performed it in 2008 already.

Then came ‘Monster’. I left it for the finish due to several reasons. I guess there was no live concert without this song. The most energetic (and raw) rock/metal song we ever made as Dark Cherry. On the other hand we always played it as a closing song on lives. And yes, I felt like I need to cover it in lofi chill (rather trap?) as well as part of Cherryland.

Finally, I decided to close Cherryland with ‘Last Song’. I hope you enjoyed this LP and a bit of reminiscence of the past.

Again, no footage to show. Ironically this is another song we left in the studio. But I loved the melodies so much so I decided to put it on the roaster of Cherryland tracklist and at the end I was able to finish this song as part of it.
