    5 lo-fi artists

Recently joining the Lofilians squad and I found myself surrounded with great lo-fi artists, so I decided to give a listen to them. Honest reviews coming up, scroll for fresh beats.

    Lo-fi artists – Sane

Let’ start with Sane from the US, the latest member in the squad. I found his beat Mellowtonin’ on YouTube through his links shared.

Honestly, it was a surprise. I mean I did not find too many videos on his YT channel. Seems like Sane is more into Spotify. Still, this song grabbed my attention as I liked the snares being just harsh enough to break the mellow electric piano melody. Adding some trap-ish rims from the middle of the song energises the beat a bit. Dope one!

    Lo-fi artists – KayCee

Next up, KayCee from Canada. His linktree was already more complex and offered some videos either. My choice landed on “under the starlight”. That is such a lo-fi title I just had to check out.

Like almost instantly landed. Beats are pretty soft, whereas the pad in the background is dominant but not overshadowing the rest. What I liked in this lo-fi song is the simplicity. From the title that is exactly what I was expected. Fun thing that if the drum part would be removed, this song could be an oriental meditative chill song to my point of view. Was a pleasure to listen.

    Lo-fi artists – Vinicius Gigante

Rolling forward to the South: Vinicius Gigante from Brasil with Water.

Am I to listen so guitars? Great. I love the increased amount of reverb here. Making the beat a bit more mellow and soul compare to KayCee-s lo-fi beat. I feel like watching the sunset moments of a ’90 action movie to be honest. Even visioning the ocean and some seagulls. Ha-ha, I wonder what the intention of the artist was, but this is my picture of this song. So, well, don’t be mislead by the cover, which is a bit too neon for me. This song is truly a chill-out one.

    Lo-fi artists – Jecks

With number four, Jecks and Fireflies.

Back to the more mainstream lo-fi. That is instantly clear for the listener. I have to say I chose this beat based on the title. As a great fan of Asian culture, fireflies are returning symbols in different animes and even books. As for the song, the style is a bit similar to KayCee’s song. I loved the mellow but dominant pad as a base with well-tuned rims (I guess, based on my ears), which makes the beats softer compare to snares. Kicks are pretty below (or at least not noticeable on my speaker), which made the song even more relaxed. Like a night time sleep beat. Great job!

    Lo-fi artists – NameAsFlowers

Lastly NamesAsFlowers. A bit of a trick here as he joined the Lofilians in May (31st) not in June, but hey. I checked him in June. Now, his linktree was quite OK, having a YT channel is also good, but auto subscribe link added. Hahh, convince me with your beats mate!

After this start my choice landed on “Uncomfortable Wait”

What really surprised me is the J.Dilla like daring beats. Most artists above tend to quantise their songs a bit more firm. Which is quite OK. People tend to relax easier with structured rhythms. Still, lo-fi music does offer some imperfection. Great solution for that. For my taste I found the drums a bit quite but of course it is a matter of taste.

Thanks for checking them. Good news for the end of the article. I have just released a new video “Ever Grande” from Ruby album.

  • Chill in Zante

    Chill in Zante

Zante, or more commonly know as Zakynthos is a beautiful Greek island I happen to visit with my wife and friends by the end of 2019. Such a lovely place worth writing about, so let me show you some of my experiences during my visit in this article.

You can chill there if you know when

Zante is quite fancy for party fans during the summer, yet when it is over, it becomes peaceful. We visited the island somewhere by the end of October when it was still warm but more quite. Not that we are that old, but at the end if was good to chill a bit. Furthermore the weather is still perfect if you wish to swim or join a ship cruise.

Zante is the island of turtles

Not everyone is aware of it but besides chilling here, you may find some turtles. Generally they prefer the southern cost, so it is worth booking the hotel close by if you are interested in them.

Even though October is not their prime season, still the local guys were able to present us some huge ones. They are lovely animals. I simply loved how peacefully they swam around us enjoying the last bits of summer.

    The sea in Zante

Well, the sea is quite warm and shallow, so it is safe to swim around. As most of the beaches are sandly, it is a bit more difficult to find as lively water life as it is by Sardinia for example.

You can find hermit crabs, starfishes and some (mostly white) fishes if you take your time and bring an action camera with you. If you are not into snorkelling, the southern cost is more your place. Local guys are happy to take you to the turtles (for some money), otherwise the sea is safe. It is perfect for long swims and beers afterwards.

Furthermore you may find little fishes by every shore if you take your time. They are pretty fast swimming around you, looking for some food I guess.

    Navagio

Navagio is a day long trip to the north worth considering if you are in Zante. This one requires a bit of more money, though we paid like 50€ each off-season. That covered the travel, some lunch and a wonderful day. Not too many people were on the ship that also made us feel comfortable.

Now Navagio is a ship wreck on the north stuck in a bay during a storm. Most likely they were smugglers and were trying to hide. Despite their best efforts rather being successful, they ended up being well-known. Millions of tourists travel to this bay every year enjoying both the sea in the bay (with white stones and many fishes) and to shoot a selfie with the wreck.

I even composed a song on my PO-33 KO years later inspired by this bay.

    Goats?

Yes, even goats to join the party if you are choosing a ship as a place to chill. While the southern cost is full of bays for turtles, travelling to the north you will find mountains. They are just perfect for goats! They enjoy both the sunny and hot climate of Greece along with the salted sea breeze constantly blowing gently on the island. Of course Greek people use them as well – after all feta is the best in Greece right?

By the way this photo was shot the same they we travelled to Navagio with the ship. As it took several hours, we had the chance to enjoy different sceneries and take dope photos.

    Finally Zante Town

The capital of Zakynthos. We spent there a day (our last day) as it was away from our place. Our hosts where happy to escort there as well as taking care of our luggage until. Honestly, it worth visiting a day but maybe not for staying too long. The little towns are more friendly and offers a chillful experience. Still let me show you a panorama I shot from the top:

I hope you enjoyed this little article. It is more about the travel that inspires me making more music than the music itself. Yet, I find it interesting to share the places that influences me.

Finally, if you like lo-fi experimental beats, such as Ship Wreck, feel free to download it below.

  • Nature chill in Sardinia

I realised that the number of views are reaching 200 on some videos on this playlist. High time for me to share some of my thoughts on Sardinia Trip. A friend of mine said about the island: “It is Hawaii of the Mediterranean Sea”

I believe this is really the best way to describe Sardinia in short. We travelled there with my wife back then in 2019 during the summer break. We spent a week there in the town of Portoscuso by the South-West part of the island. Our hotel was by the port offering a magnificent view every morning.

    The sea around Portoscuso

It is simply magnificent and beautiful. If you are looking for chill and inspiration, I would suggest you to visit Sardinia. It was bunch of little bays, places to jump in. Be cautious of course, there are bunch of little fellows all around you in the sea. But it really makes your swim a fascinating memory.

    City of Portoscuso in Sardinia

Little town with a focus on services. It means you are to find hotels, restaurant and some places like ice-cream parlour in the centre of the city. Although they are nice places, the majority of the people here are native Italians. I mean the guests as well, so do what the Italians do. Coffee at morning, loud by the places otherwise they will get in front of you in the queue.

The city offers tons of programs during my time there so enjoying the moment is easy. There are also beautiful butterflies and other bugs in the city occasionally. So again, cameras by the hand to capture the moment.

Lastly, I would highly suggest to explore the city before 10 AM and after 5 PM. It is the best time of the day, when the sun is yet (or already not) burning you. But the lights are still ideal to shoot some photos. Also to enjoy the city.

    Cuisine of Portoscuso

Just marvellous. Even though it is more expensive than Greece or Spain to my experience. On the other hand it really worth trying their local offers including grilled fishes, steamed clams and of course coffee.

Other things in Sardinia worth mentioning

The sunset. I loved it. I had so many videos and photos early eve. It really gave me a true chill-out vibe.

Carloforte. It is a city on an island close by. The island of San Pietro is a place you can travel to from Sardinia. It is also a true Mediterranean city with such an amazing colours.

It also means you can choose from a wide range of ship trips. Some for snorkelling. Others to offer trips to other islands. Again others are just going out to the sea and returning.

    Nature chill inspiration

In the last paragraph I wish to highlight Sardinia’s role in my music production. I have bunch of beats composed inspired by the trip to this island. The best example is Faro Solitaro. The lonely lighthouse that was inspired by this one:

I featured this song months later on A Drop of Water nature chill EP. Moon album is another instance for Sardinia inspired nature chill-out beats. Koni Koni is a song really shows the vibe of being on a Mediterranean island.
