Olivine City is the first concept single featuring my new beat Olivine, from my very first chiptune LP, Soul Silver.
Apart from the title song, I added the first demo version of New Bark as an extra. Quite a bargain for a free single, right?
Both chiptune beats were composed using free (and recorded) Nintendo sound samples imitating the ambience of retro Game Boy and Game Boy Advance devices.
Actually this is the magic of this album. Even though I go much deeper here, the essence is that as part of this project I set the following. I replayed the game (Pokémon Silver) to get back to the vibe. I recorded tons of samples and worked on the processing to be able to offer you such a unique vibe. Lastly, no copying. I played the game without sound, not to be affected.
I mean, of course I do remember many of the songs from my childhood. Still, I wished not to use them as a starting point, but rather re-imagine the places. How they would sound like if I was there. Kind of a weird concept right? If you are interested, click below.
