About Chilling Ermines
Chilling Ermines is a lo-fi hip hop inspired compilation album covering old T21CB songs in lofi hiphop style. T21CB, my first band became 15 years old in 2021. Due to Covid19, we had much less chance to meet with fellow band mate Jigsaw. As a result I decided to create this little cover album in lo-fi genre for the anniversary. Jigsaw contributed a lot during the production (mixing and beats part).
The release contains 12 songs plus an old remix that was part of a T21CB EP in 2020. All songs were produced with Serato Sample and Ableton Live.
About the songs covered on Chilling Ermines
I try to sum up all the little bits about the songs covered on the release. Might have some mistakes, after all it really covers up a long time. The first beats were released in 2006. Namely: many. Mirakels was the first album of T21CB released somewhere in August featuring Hate My Wings and Eat My Butterfly as well.
But we did not finish the year here as Butterfly [alter]EGO was also released by Fall the same year. It featured songs such as Butterfly EGO and Butterfly Mental Asylum as well. In fact all songs had the word “butterfly” in their title. It was quite difficult to sample them for a lo-fi hip hop album as most songs were full of arps and chiptune like effects.
One could say fast forward but no. We even released another EP by the end of the year featuring ‘Jigsaw’s Theme’ – a song we used and played already but never had the time to record it.
Songs from 2007-2010
2007 with some new albums such as Before Break. It is titled like that as we decided to both focus on Dark Cherry for a couple of years and had a little break with T21CB until 2010. Songs featured: Fly High and Elhagytál. The latter is a rare beat to highlight: we sing on Hungarian in the song. Pretty piano oriented, it was fun to sample it for a lo-fi beat.
Returning in 2010 with The Magical Ermine Theatre and of course with full might. As we both love this release, we decided to work on Lemo for the anniversary. Lemo was pretty easy-listen rock song compare to songs like Yakuza.
From 2015 to 2021
Moving both to Budapest and in fact living under the same roof for a year, we restarted activities as T21CB. 2015 started off with Unreleased #2 – pack of songs on an EP. We composed them in our free time, but it was a less conceptual release compare to regular T21CB albums. It was followed by Dirty DNA, the 6th album featuring Cay on cajon (also played with us in Dark Cherry). This album had much more effort and time compare to previous releases. I remixed both Ermine Tribe and L$D//LHD on the anniversary lo-fi release.
Finally I chose Static Noise from -4 EP and Starlight LC remix from Ermines on Fire by the Starlight of the Half-Sock Universe of Cat Totems and Beach Ghosts from Outer Space (an EP). Yes, it is the official title.
