About Rock 128

Rock 128 is the 21st album of the Latte Chill project offering something new and rare contrary to the previous releases. What does it mean?

The story starts somewhere in the ’90 with little Latte Chill being a great fan or Mega Man games. My personal fave was Mega Man 4 on Game Boy.

Later in 2012 I composed a song called Chip, inspired by Mega Man games. At that point I was considering already releasing a full album with chiptune songs only. But it was too early.

The idea for creating a full chiptune album resurfaced during the production of my 11th album. Soul Silver was a truly 8-bit album inspired by retro Pokémon games. Similarly to Rock 128, the songs contain tons of improvisation unlike many of my chill releases. Finally, in 2021 I started the production of Rock 128 but I was able to release it only in 2022.

About the production of Rock 128

Rock 128 is unlike any other releases so far. That comes from the simple fact that I composed the whole album on Pocket Operator 128. Starting the get where the ‘128’ came from right? Though 128 bpm is an ideal tempo for many upbeat songs so it has some multiple meanings.

Returning to my original point, PO-128 was new in many aspects. It is a pocket synthesizer and therefore composing beats is way different from using the good old PO-33 sampler. That made me very eager to create something extraordinary and different. I was even considering if this album should be released under another name. In the end, I realized that if Soul Silver was given a place among the Latte Chill albums, the same would happen for Rock 128.

Another thing I decided during this time was that the 10th album, Earth is a very special album to me. It was my first nature chill-out album and also the first one I released on Distrokid. As it marked many changes in the project, I decided to release something odd next. That was Soul Silver. Now Travellers marked the 20th Latte Chill album along with the end of a 2-year-long project (if not more). I just needed to release something odd as a next. Rock 128 became the next retro vibe chiptune album marking 21st place.

Rock 128 album is an almost 30-minute-long chiptune album. Keep in mind that this album is not for chill and is less lo-fi than any Latte Chill release. This album offers an upbeat retro video game vibe on the other hand. If you are into beeps and boops, this album is the perfect choice.
