About Ruby

Ruby is the second half of a concept album following Sapphire I released last December. Both releases were inspired by an old video game, released on Game Boy Advance. Yes, I’m talking about the Pokémon game series. Obviously, I am not covering any of the OST here. What I did was replaying the game on my old Advance and kind of reimagined the places. My music offers the vibe of the places from my perspective. I put quite an effort into audiolizing them so listen to this lo-fi album with love. I hope you will enjoy the beats.

The production of Ruby

Ruby album was produced with the help of PO-33 KO and Koala Sampler. That means I sampled some royalty-free wave files as well as using my own VSTs and instruments. Furthermore, many of the beats were composed not in-house but on the go. With my new setup, I compose more and more songs outside, especially if the weather lets me. That means I have more impacts and also possibilities. I mean I can add field noise if I wish, etc. I believe lo-fi music can evolve this way. Generally, many people love lo-fi music because it is less sterile. Well, here I go with the aim to add more and more buzzing, hissing noises, actual ones from the real world.

Compared to Sapphire, I believe the fundamental difference between the two albums is the use of Koala Sampler. While I already used it during the production of the first part. I still believe there it was like 20%-80% split with PO-33 KO. Which is fine, my pocket operator was purchased before. I have full lo-fi albums produced only with the sampler. On the other hand, doubling capacity offered changes in general. PO-33 KO has a limit of 4 channels total. Which is generally fine: drums, bass, chords, melody. But if I am to sample the base from Koala, I free up 1-2 channels on PO-33 that offer space for noises, arps, etc. That gave body to the songs.

All in all, I can say, Ruby is a more complex album than Sapphire but the 2 offers a great mix. What do you think? Let me know, once you give it a spin.

Listen to Ruby Chillhop Beats in Mixes

One of my autumn-themed mixes features a beat. Another beat can be found on Blue Monday. Several songs are inspired by sakura/cherry blossom, so Sakura Beats 4, Sakura Beats 5, and Sakura Beats 6. Finally, I feature a Ruby song on the Year of Rabbit mix as well.
