    Toshi

Toshi (年) means “year” in Japanese. This LP brings together twelve lofi singles, each inspired by a month of Japan’s traditional calendar, forming a complete sonic journey through the seasons.

From spring’s first blossoms to winter’s quiet introspection, Toshi translates time, nature, and cultural tradition into sound. Each track reflects a specific moment in the year – not as a snapshot, but as a mood – creating an album designed for focus, reflection, and slow listening.

    A Year Told in Sound

Toshi unfolds gradually, mirroring the rhythm of the year itself:

    • Spring begins with renewal, lightness, and gentle movement
    • Summer brings warmth, rain, poetry, and subtle emotional contrast
    • Autumn slows everything down, introducing stillness and introspection
    • Winter closes the cycle with restraint, endurance, and reflection

Rather than dramatic shifts, the album embraces continuity. Transitions are soft, moods overlap, and emotions evolve naturally – just like the seasons.

Toshi was produced on PO-33 KO

Toshi was crafted primarily using the PO-33 KO, embracing limitations to keep the sound intimate and focused. Soft keys, warm pads, minimal percussion, and restrained melodies form the core palette.

The production avoids excess, choosing a minimal path – leaving space for breath, thought, and atmosphere. Each track is designed to function on its own, yet flow seamlessly as part of the album, encouraging full-length listening from start to finish.

  • [Single] Shiwasu

    shiwasu single Latte Chill

As my last for 2025, it will be titled Shiwasu. In Japan’s traditional calendar, Shiwasu (師走) refers to December as the “Busy Month.” Traditionally, even monks and teachers were said to run through the streets as the year rushed toward its end. Despite this sense of movement, December also carries a deep, reflective stillness – a moment to look back before starting anew.

My new lofi single tries to capture this contrast: quiet motion, inner restlessness, and the calm that follows a long year.

Crafting Shiwasu with the PO-33 KO

Produced with the PO-33 KO, the song blends soft melodies, muted beats, and cold yet comforting textures. The sound design balances gentle momentum with spacious pauses, reflecting December’s dual nature – busy days and silent nights.

The track is designed for late evenings, end-of-year reflections, and moments when time feels both fast and suspended.

    The B-Side: Yuutsu na

Accompanying the main single is the B-side Yuutsu na (憂鬱な), meaning “melancholic.” The track leans deeper into introspection, embracing slower tempos, minimal elements, and a heavier emotional tone.

Where Shiwasu reflects motion and closure, Yuutsu na explores the quiet melancholy often felt at the end of the year – not sadness, but thoughtful stillness and emotional depth.

Together, the two tracks form a contemplative closing chapter to the seasonal journey.

    Completing the Seasonal Cycle

With Shiwasu, the lofi calendar project (aka Toshi) reaches its conclusion. From the blossoms of Uzuki to December’s reflective calm, each release has traced the changing seasons through sound, tradition, and atmosphere.

This final entry brings resolution – a pause before the cycle begins again.

  • [Single] Nagatsuki

Nagatsuki: A Lofi Soundscape for September’s Long Nights

In Japan’s traditional calendar, Nagatsuki (長月) marks September as the “Long Month.” The name refers to the lengthening nights of autumn — a time when the air cools, leaves begin to turn, and evenings invite reflection. My new lofi single, captures this shift with mellow textures, warm atmospheres, and a touch of nostalgia for the fading summer.

Following the seasonal flow of Satsuki, Minazuki, Fumizuki, and Hazuki, Nagatsuki continues the journey into the quieter, more contemplative side of the year.

Crafting Nagatsuki with the PO-33 KO

Built on the PO-33 KO, Nagatsuki layers gentle melodies with understated beats. The sound palette blends soft keys, subtle pads, and minimal percussive elements, evoking the stillness of early autumn evenings. It’s a track for winding down, journaling, or simply enjoying the peaceful rhythm of longer nights.

    The B-Side: Yotoku

Accompanying Nagatsuki is a B-side titled Yotoku (余得), meaning “an unexpected gain” or “additional benefit.” The track mirrors the surprise beauty of autumn’s early evenings — when cooler air, vivid sunsets, and quiet moments bring unexpected clarity. While Nagatsuki offers calm and steady flow, Yotoku introduces a more playful, wandering energy, complementing the single with contrast.

Together, they create a balance: one celebrating September’s steady nights, the other capturing its unexpected treasures.

    Continuing the Seasonal Journey

With Nagatsuki, the lofi calendar project enters autumn, moving from the lush leaves of Hazuki into the deepening evenings of September. The single and its B-side mark a turning point — where the warmth of summer gives way to introspection, slower rhythms, and quiet moments.

    Where to Listen

Nagatsuki and Yotoku are now streaming on all major platforms including Spotify, YouTube, and Bandcamp. Add them to your playlists, share them, and let their sounds accompany your September nights.

If you’re seeking peaceful lofi beats for focus, study, or relaxation, this release offers the perfect soundtrack for autumn evenings.
